Stefan de Vrij has won plenty of praise for his decisive performance in yesterday’s Serie A derby between AC Milan and Inter Milan.
TuttoMercatoWeb highlight the solid scores that the Dutchman received in the player ratings for the match across Italian media. These highlighted his impact at both ends of the pitch.
De Vrij started in the middle of Inter’s back three yesterday.
And defensively, the former Lazio and Feyenoord defender barely put a foot wrong.
For much of the match, Stefan de Vrij was marking former Chelsea and Roma striker Tammy Abraham.
And it was an assured display from the Inter defender.
Abraham is hardly an easy opponent to keep track of. But de Vrij proved more than equal to him, using his combination of physicality and experience to deny the Englishman time and space in dangerous areas.
Naturally, defending was de Vrij’s main job as always. And he did it well.
But at the same time, Stefan de Vrij also popped up with the key goal for Inter.

The Nerazzurri had laboured throughout the second half to try and find an equalizer.
But even when there were good chances, the players who got on the end of them were not able to put them in the back of the net.
But de Vrij made no mistake. His goal in stoppage time was exceptionally well-taken.
