The left-back, who arrived at Celtic Park on loan from Crystal Palace late in the January transfer window, has impressed with his performances under Rodgers’ stewardship.

Schlupp scored one and set up another as Celtic defeated St Mirren 5-2 over a week ago before starting and completing 90 minutes again in a 2-0 victory over Hibernian on Sunday afternoon in the Scottish Cup quarter-final.

The 32-year-old will be a free agent at the end of the season, and Rodgers was questioned after the Hibernian encounter about the possibility of making Schlupp’s transfer permanent. He said: “I don’t know [if he will be signed permanently].”

“I think initially it was just to come in and adapt to our playing style and support the squad, and anything further than that we will look at later on down the line.”

“He’s a super professional. He fits the bill for us. That’s what’s always important with the players that we bring in.”

“His mentality is good; he is a top professional. You see his body, and you see his physicality. At 32 years of age, and that’s because he looks after himself.”

“So, he’s really adapting well, and I’ve obviously got Greg on the side as well, if I need to bring him in.”

It has already been confirmed that Kieran Tierney will return to Celtic in the summer, while Greg Taylor is set to depart on a free transfer at the end of the season, as his contract expires.

This creates an opportunity for Schlupp to possibly fill the left-back position in the squad. He has settled into life at Celtic seamlessly and would be a welcome addition if he was to sign on the dotted line for the longer-term.
