Reo Hatate returned to Pittodrie yesterday to dish out some personal pay-back after his substitute appearance back in May resulted in an injury that kept him out of the Scottish Cup final and possibly cost Celtic a treble as a result.

Reo’s Goal of the Season Contender

Hatate’s goal yesterday afternoon in Celtic’s 2-0 win over Aberdeen is clearly going to take some beating in any goal of the season competition and afterwards the hacks were fantasising about another Celtic exit as they enquired about Reo Hatate’s status with regards to a possible move this summer.

Brendan Rodgers responded to that by saying that he is actually “trying to get them in, never mind get them out! We haven’t had anything for the likes of Reo and that, but yes, he’s one of the few players in that midfield that can make those incisive passes.

“That used to really frustrate me”

“He’ll give the ball away at times, and that used to really frustrate me when I first started to work with him, but I know that’s the risk he plays in his game. But he’ll produce a moment like that, which is a brilliant finish, and he’s done that up here before last year.

“So, yes, we want to build a squad, and like I said, there’s lots of areas in it I’m pleased with, but of course, there’s other areas that we will focus on and hopefully improve.”

KT’s horrible half-time

The Celtic manager also revealed that Kieran Tierney was vomiting in the away dressing room at Pittodrie during the half-time break.

“He did well to come out for the second half, he was sick at half time,” Rodgers said in his post-match media conference. “He was throwing up all over the changing room, thankfully I wasn’t in there at the time.”

The Celtic manager added: “He’s come out, we’ve given him 15 minutes or so and then took him off but he’s a top player.

Asked what the problem was Rodgers replied: “Not sure. Might be a wee bug of some sort, maybe something he’s drank of some sort. Thankfully he’s OK now.”

Shin Yamada’s postive competitive debut

Rodgers also took the chance to introduce Shin Yamada to the Scottish Premiership during a tough away fixture and the Japanese striker can be reasonably pleased with his first small taste of competitive football in a Celtic jersey.

“It’s moments in games of when you can use them. So, yes, it was important. I wanted to see him in a game where there’s something really on it, away from home, and seeing his physicality in the game.

“He’s got lots of things he needs to work on, but he’s got a good attitude and he wants to get better. He’ll feel, coming into the game, that he was positive in his play.”
