Rodolfo Arruabarrena is close to returning as Boca head coach, with a final agreement described as imminent after Claudio Úbeda’s departure. The club moved quickly to stabilise the project.
According to LaNumer12.com.ar, Juan Román Riquelme made the formal approach and Arruabarrena is said to have accepted, with only minor financial details to finalise before signing. An announcement is expected this weekend.
Boca’s painful Copa Libertadores exit intensified calls for swift answers, prompting a pragmatic response from the hierarchy. The positive talks mark the start of a new cycle, 10 years after his first spell.
Arruabarrena has not coached for more than a year. His previous tenure at Boca delivered two trophies in a short span, a memory that renews optimism among supporters.
The incoming staff have already begun remote work from Spain, assessing the current squad’s data and resources. Alongside long-time assistant Diego Markic, he is building a clear technical diagnosis before travelling to Argentina.
The squad is due back on 18 June, and the expectation is that Arruabarrena will be in charge. With pre-season looming in Ezeiza, the immediate task is to lift morale and forge a competitive side.
