Rodrigo Bentancur is close to agreeing to a new deal with Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Sun.

The 28-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium club.

However, Spurs head coach Thomas Frank is a huge admirer of Bentancur and rates him highly.

He wants to keep the Uruguayan international at Tottenham in the long term, and both parties have agreed to an extension.

Spurs handed Cristian Romero a new deal some weeks ago and Bentancur is set to be next.

He has made eight appearances across all competitions so far this term despite the arrival of Joao Palhinha on loan from Bayern Munich.

It was thought that the signing of the Portuguese would limit the game time of Bentancur, but both have combined well in the middle of the park and Frank wants to hold on to him for as long as possible.

He joined Tottenham from Juventus in January 2022 and has made 121 appearances across all competitions, making himself a key player under every manager since then.

While Spurs are looking forward to the departure of Yves Bissouma ahead of his contract expiring at the end of the season, they want to keep Bentancur and an agreement appears to be in place.

It is a much-needed boost for the North London club as they need to hold on to such a key player as they look to establish themselves as regular challengers for the top-four in the Premier League.

Tottenham have started 2025-26 on a decent note, with three wins, two draws and a defeat to their name, and Frank will be hoping to end the campaign with silverware.

He has been able to get the likes of Bentancur firing on all cylinders after a commendable summer transfer window, and more contract extensions are on the cards with some key players out of a deal in the summer of 2027.
