Rodrigo Caio has resigned from Flamengo’s coaching staff following the departure of Filipe Luís, with assistant Ivan Palanco and fitness coach Diogo Linhares also leaving after the heavy win over Madureira in the early hours of Tuesday.
The club said in a statement that his exit was a personal decision, adding thanks for his dedication and professionalism during his time with the permanent backroom team and wishing him success in his next steps.
Rodrigo informed the club shortly after Boto was confirmed. The former centre-back had rejoined in May last year as part of the permanent staff, brought in at the head coach’s request to replace Daniel Alegria, who had been dismissed.
He oversaw defensive and attacking set pieces, studying and analysing data to identify opponents’ strengths and weaknesses. In training drills, Filipe Luís was always alongside him on rehearsed routines.
As a player, Rodrigo Caio won the Copa Libertadores, the Brasileiro, the Copa do Brasil, the Supercopa do Brasil and the Recopa Sul-Americana with Flamengo. Announced in December 2018, he stayed until December 2023, and also played for Grêmio before retiring.
