Rodrigo De Paul scored for Inter Miami against CF Monterrey in the Leagues Cup, then lifted his shirt to reveal a Lionel Messi jersey in tribute to the Argentine great’s father.

The Argentina midfielder opened the scoring with a long-range strike, but the Florida side lost 1-2 to CF Monterrey on Saturday night. According to L'Équipe, Jorge Messi died aged 68 earlier in the day, leaving Argentine football in mourning.

During the celebration De Paul removed his shirt to reveal a Messi jersey underneath, turning to display the name and the number 10 across the back.

Messi did not feature for Inter Miami in the tie.

He has returned to Argentina for Sunday’s private funeral.
