Roger Machado, out of work since leaving São Paulo, has drawn interest from Chapecoense and has also been sounded out by clubs in Mexico and Saudi Arabia. According to Globo.com, he is prioritising a move abroad at this stage.
He intends to spend the coming weeks with family before settling on his next step. The coach speaks English, which he views as an advantage alongside his familiarity with current methodologies and trends.
As a result, Chapecoense's approach is currently secondary. The Santa Catarina club dismissed Fábio Matias on Monday after a defeat to Cruzeiro on Sunday, and they are bottom of the Brasileirão with nine points from 16 games.
Machado's most recent job was at São Paulo, where he was sacked on 13 May after Copa do Brasil elimination by Juventude. He took charge of 17 matches, winning seven, drawing four and losing six.
He had been under heavy pressure, with boos before, during and after home games, and his technical vocabulary at press conferences was questioned, particularly after defeat to Palmeiras. His career includes spells with Grêmio, Atlético-MG, Palmeiras, Bahia, Fluminense, Juventude, Inter and São Paulo, and he won the Gauchão in 2025, the Mineiro in 2017 and the Baiano in 2019 and 2020.
