According to Glorioso 1904, former Benfica coach Roger Schmidt has re-emerged as a candidate to take charge at Eintracht Frankfurt, the German side who finished 33rd in the Champions League league phase.

For now, Albert Riera remains in post and will lead the team against Borussia Dortmund. The decision followed internal talks, with the hierarchy opting for immediate continuity due to a lack of timely alternatives.

Medium term, the Spaniard’s exit at the end of the season is seen as practically certain, with the club having decided not to extend his deal. Whether he oversees the final Bundesliga match against Stuttgart will be determined after the Dortmund game.

A season of inconsistent results and internal strain has fuelled uncertainty, with reports of friction between Riera and members of the squad. A 2-1 defeat to Hamburg sharpened doubts, and an immediate dismissal was considered before being set aside.

With change on the horizon, candidates are emerging. Alongside a possible return for Adi Hütter, Schmidt is viewed as a viable option given his Bundesliga pedigree from Bayer Leverkusen.
