On Friday, November 14, the Mexican Under-17 team advanced to the Round of 16 of the 2025 World Cup in Qatar after defeating Argentina in a penalty shootout, following a 2-2 draw in regulation time. With grit and determination, the national team managed to take another step forward in its World Cup journey.
The Rojiblanca youth academy once again played a leading role thanks to Jhonnatan Grajales, who wore the captain's armband and played the entire match in midfield, contributing to combinations up front and fulfilling defensive duties when the team needed him. Similarly, Gael García was on the field for 78 minutes and had an outstanding performance, once again playing a key role in setting up a goal for Mexico's comeback: after a free kick taken by him, the ball fell to the feet of Luis Gamboa, who in the 58th minute scored the goal that momentarily put El Tri ahead.
Mexico's next match in this World Cup will be against Portugal on November 17 at the Aspire Zone, at a time yet to be determined. It will be a decisive match in which the national team will have to maintain its intensity and show its best form to secure a place in the quarterfinals.
