The Red Devils announced the signing of the Swedish international forward last week. The player has signed a two-year deal at Leigh Sports Village.
Rolfö will be tasked with improving Manchester United’s goal return this season and teammate Malard says that the forward brings different qualities to the attacking unit.
“She has a lot of experience and she brings that here which I think is so good for us,” Malard told WSL Full-Time. “She plays so well for Sweden and had a good EUROs, so I think she’s full of confidence and that’s good for us.
“She has different qualities to other players here and that is good for the team.”
Reflecting on last season’s third-place finish in the Barclays Women’s Super League, Malard highlighted the attacking connections as an area of improvement for Manchester United this term.
She said “It was a good season last year. We had the second-best defence in the league, we defended so well and I think we need to keep that record.
“We need more connections in-front of goal, more clinical finishing to kill the opponent off. Maybe that is work that we need to do this year.”
Going on to discuss targets for the upcoming season, Malard said that she wants to play more while staying focused on the task is important for the team as a collective.
She said “Personally, I want to play more and continue my progress after the EUROs. I want to play more here in Manchester because I like this club.
“For the team, we have to stay focused and look to climb the table. Three years’ ago, we were runners-up and that was good. I think we can win the WSL if we are focused and take the opportunity.
“Football is hard, we can’t be perfect all of the time but staying focused is what we need to do this season.”
Manchester United return to competitive action next week when they get their UEFA Women’s Champions League campaign underway. Malard does not see the quick turnaround after the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 as a negative.
She said “It’s not very difficult because it’s part of the job. It’s my passion and when I have holidays, I miss football a lot.
“We’ve had holidays after the EUROs and now, we have come back and we are working hard to hopefully, enjoy a good season.
“For me, it’s good to start with the Champions League now. I think it’s good to prepare the team for the WSL season. It helps us improve our conditioning, so it’s all good.”
Manchester United begin this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League in the second qualifying round with a semi-final tie against PSV Eindhoven in Sweden on Wednesday. Their first Barclays Women’s Super League fixture is against Leicester City at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday 7 September 2025.
