Rodinei and Benjamín Rollheiser have expressed their disappointment after Santos were knocked out of the Copa Sudamericana quarter-finals by Atlético-MG.
Santos travelled to the Arena MRV on Wednesday holding a 2-0 first-leg lead, but lost the return 4-2 and conceded in second-half stoppage time to take it to penalties. Atlético-MG won the shootout 3-1. According to Globo.com, both players later posted messages on social media.
Rollheiser said the defeat was hard to process, noting that such moments are part of football. He urged the squad to lift their heads, prepare for what is to come with greater resolve, and meet the responsibility of the shirt, adding that they would stay united until the end.
Rodinei described the elimination as unbelievable and the most painful loss of his career. He said he feels blessed to wear the shirt once used by Pelé, praised the backing of the fans, and vowed to keep fighting in the Brasileiro.
Santos remain in Belo Horizonte to begin preparations for Remo in the 28th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. The match is scheduled for Saturday at 18:30 Brasília time at the Mangueirão.
