After three consecutive wins, the positive run came to an end for Milan Women as Roma prevailed 2-1 earlier today. However, as told by our correspondent Luca Maninetti, it’s a game that leaves Rossonere fans hopeful of what is to come.
After beating Lazio 2-1, Napoli 1-0 and Sampdoria 1-0, Milan Women headed into today’s clash with a lot of confidence. Of course, with Roma being the reigning champions, it was never going to be easy and this superiority proved to be decisive.
However, Milan Women got off to a great start through Evelyn Ijeh just five minutes into the game, assisted by Monica Renzotti. Roma grew into the game after that and found the equaliser in the 22nd minute through the midfielder Manuela Giugliano.
Both teams had chances ahead of the break, but the first half finished 1-1. In the second half, the Rossonere started well but were able to break the deadlock, which instead Roma managed in the 75th minute. The former Milan player, Valentina Giacinti, found the back of the net with a header.
It was a so-called gol dell’ex, and Milan were unable to respond after that. Our correspondent Luca Maninetti made it clear that it was a promising display, though…
“Today it was important to create an identity and I must say that I finally saw an energetic team, more fluid and with more ideas. Of course, Roma are clearly stronger but I saw a glimmer of hope.
“There is still a lot of work to do but I’m more confident. Ijeh still scores. Renzotti is a certainty. Many elements were missing in midfield and losing just 2-1 against the Italian champions Roma, as I see it, Bakker can be satisfied,” he stated.
