The Italian Interior Ministry has imposed an away travel ban on Roma and Fiorentina supporters until the end of the season across all Italian competitions.

The measure, confirmed on Tuesday, follows clashes involving the two sets of fans on Sunday on an Italian motorway.

The ministry liaised with Lega Serie A over the decision.

Lega Serie A president Ezio Simonelli said the motorway incidents were very serious. He added that Italian football cannot be mixed with criminal matters or clashes that endanger participants and those intervening.

Earlier in the season, Pisa and Verona supporters received a three-month travel ban, later reduced to two months after the fans’ repentance.
