The January transfer window is about to get underway, and Roma wants to be ready.

This time, there will be no room for mistakes or delays, which is why sporting director Massara is already working to bring Gian Piero Gasperini the much-desired attacking reinforcement.

The name to keep an eye on remains Joshua Zirkzee, a Manchester United striker with a Serie A past at Bologna and Parma.

The Dutchman, despite a positive initial impact with the Red Devils, has never found the playing time he hoped for, and now it seems the time has come for him to leave England to rack up appearances ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which the former Bayern Munich player hopes to compete in.

So far this season, the 2001-born player has only appeared in four Premier League games: 60 minutes against Burnley, 11 minutes against Manchester City, 6 minutes against Brentford, and 9 minutes against Brighton. Of these four matches, therefore, he only started once and never managed to make his mark with a goal or assist.

The former Bologna player, Il Messaggero reports, appears to be Gian Piero Gasperini’s choice to bolster Roma’s attacking line, which has so far been experiencing a complete drought in goals with Dovbyk and Ferguson scoring just two goals in the first eleven league games.

Furthermore, most of the players currently in the Giallorossi attack have contracts expiring in June 2026.

These include Bailey, El Shaarawy, Pellegrini, Dybala, and Ferguson. Different stories, but with the same plausible outcome. And so the Rome management is already starting to look around, with the real possibility that the Dutch center forward will be the first signing of the winter transfer window.
