Roma are preparing to tweak their defense, as Jan Ziolkowski is close to joining Monza, and they have put their hands on Morato to quickly replace him. Both would move on initial loans. The Giallorossi will have an option to buy, and the Brianzoli are trying to obtain the same, Corriere dello Sport informs.

The 25-year-old headed to Nottingham Forest from Benfica in 2024 for €11M. He has amassed 66 appearances since, scoring once. He featured 37 times in the most recent campaign but was no longer a centerpiece.

Roma targeted Morato for his versatility, as he can play as a left-back in a pinch. They signed Ziolkowski for €6M from Legia Warsaw a year ago. He starred in 19 games for them in the past campaign. He’ll be a regular in Monza, but it remains to be seen whether they’ll grant the clause to acquire him, as they might prefer to keep hold of the player. On the other hand, they seriously contemplated selling him to a Saudi team earlier in the summer to raise cash.

The Giallorossi also have a decision to make on Jayden Oosterwolde. He’ll need more time than anticipated to recuperate from his thigh injury. They are trying to change the terms of his transfer from Fenerbahce. There’s optimism that the deal will happen anyway.

They are stacking up left-footed defenders for some reason, but the switcheroo would be a net positive, as they’d onboard a more seasoned contributor, while the starlet showed promise and interesting traits but needs to cut his teeth to be a real rotational piece at their level.
