Roma Taking a Cautious Approach with Dybala Extension

Paulo Dybala has been shining when available, but his second thigh injury of the season has caused the renewal talks to grind to a halt. La Joya missed the final months of the previous campaign because he had surgery to repair a tendon in the same area.

According to Alfredo Pedullà, the Giallorossi brass will take their time in evaluating how to proceed and to put together the right offer. His wages, which stem from a convoluted and dated deal, have ballooned to €8M. The executives tried to dilute the figure last summer, but the negotiations didn’t go far.

Roma don’t question the qualities of Dybala, but they’ll tender a lower salary given his age and injury woes. It remains to be seen whether it’ll satisfy the demands of the player and his camp. The former Juventus star always stated that he’s very comfortable in the Eternal City, but he’ll have to prove it financially. He already passed on a major payday in the past, as he could have moved to Al-Qadsiah.

The Giallorossi have the same stance regarding Lorenzo Pellegrini, Tuttomercatoweb informs. He hasn’t been a full-time starter, but he’s been serviceable when fielded. They are open to prolonging his tenure, but not at his current rate. He pockets €4.5M plus €1.5M in bonuses per year.

Our Take on Roma and Dybala

It’ll be a true pickle because it’s been a great match and partnership, but the economic aspects often supersede that. While his wages are bloated now, they enjoyed him for relatively cheap for a couple of seasons. An incentive-laden contract that lets him stay close to the current level if he plays consistently and delivers could do the trick.
