The match against Torino brought both good and bad news for Gasperini.
The coach has Pellegrini back, and Ferguson will also be back this week. Malen and Vaz arrived from the transfer market, and the Dutchman immediately made his mark, scoring on his debut.
However, the coach must contend with Hermoso’s sidelines.
The Spaniard will be out for at least a month due to a muscle injury.
It’s an injury Roma didn’t want, and they’ll now be forced to reassess their transfer plans.
After reinforcing their attack with Malen and Vaz, the Giallorossi were keen to sign another attacking winger, given the likely departures of Baldanzi and Bailey, and a left winger to replace Wesley on the right.
With Hermoso’s injury, however, the priority becomes a central defender.
Excluding Celik, Roma has four central defenders, a small number for a team that plays with three men at the back.
And two of these, Ghilardi and Ziolkowski, while always available when called upon, are still young and therefore lack the reliability of the Spaniard. Roma has been pursuing Dragusin for weeks now, with the Giallorossi wanting him, as his agent has repeatedly stated.
Leipzig are also interested in the player. Tottenham have not yet agreed to a transfer, as they would like to sell him permanently, while Roma have offered a loan with an option to buy.
We’ll see if, with Hermoso’s injury, the Giallorossi will make an extra effort to bring the Romanian back to Serie A.
