Roma are reportedly poised to send El Aynaoui to RB Leipzig in a package worth up to €29m, and to replace him with De Roon.

Sky Sport Italia reports that the agreement is a €4m loan with an option to buy for €25m at the end of the season, which could become an obligation if certain conditions are met. There was Premier League interest, but the decision seems to favour RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.

The 25-year-old Morocco international joined last year from RC Lens for €23.5m plus add-ons, but did not establish himself under Gian Piero Gasperini.

The 35-year-old, in the final year of his Atalanta contract, is reportedly being allowed to leave for a nominal fee linked entirely to performance-related bonuses. This is depicted as a gentleman’s agreement between the clubs, enabling him to play in the Champions League and reunite with Gasperini at Roma.

De Roon was central to Atalanta’s Gasperini era over nine years, first arriving in 2015-16, then returning in 2017 after a short Middlesbrough spell. He leaves with a club-record 445 appearances, 23 goals and 32 assists.
