Roma have announced that winger Alexis Saelemaekers has successfully undergone surgery for a fractured bone in his ankle.
The former Milan man sustained the serious injury during the 1-1 Serie A draw away to Genoa at the weekend.
He was diagnosed with a fractured medial malleolus that required surgical intervention to stabilise it.
That was performed successfully today and he will begin rehabilitation over the next few days.
Saelemaekers is expected to be out of action for circa 12 weeks as he makes a full recovery from this fracture, so should be back on the pitch by the end of 2024.
The 25-year-old joined Roma over the summer on loan from Milan as part of the agreement taking Tammy Abraham to San Siro.
The Belgium international has been in Italy since January 2020, also having a loan spell at Bologna last season.
He has amassed 144 Serie A appearances in his career, with 10 goals and another 15 assists for his teammates.
