A pillar of the Giallorossi defense and back in the national team: Gianluca Mancini is enjoying a stellar start to the season.
A total leader of Roma, under Gian Piero Gasperini—his mentor during his time at Atalanta—he has made another leap in quality. And regarding his contract renewal, there could be some changes in the coming months.
If there’s one certainty in Gasperini’s new Roma, it’s the defense: 3 goals conceded in 7 games, the best defense in Serie A and among the most solid in Europe.
At the center of the wall is Mancini, the soul and voice of a line that has found balance, focus, and compactness.
The number 23, as Il Corriere della Sera notes, has become the symbol of a team that struggles less and reads games with greater clarity.
Under Gasperini, after the imprint left last year by Claudio Ranieri, he has completed his metamorphosis: from an aggressive wing-back to the central pivot of the three-man defense, almost an additional director of the ball. His presence gives the group security, even under pressure.
His return to the Azzurri was the natural consequence of this growth.
His contract expires in 2027, and although the club currently has other priorities, the topic of a contract extension will soon return to the forefront: it will be discussed at the end of the season.
The idea of staying at Roma for life appeals to him; more than anything, however, he values feeling part of a project that reflects his true self.
