Everton Academy full-back Roman Dixon has signed for League Two side Walsall, after being released by the Toffees earlier this summer when his contract expired.

The 21-year-old academy graduate, who signed his first professional contract with the Blues in 2022 and signing a new 3-year contract in 2024, makes the move to the Bescot Stadium to continue his developing career after failing to make the top grade at Finch Farm.

Dixon broke into the senior squad setup under Sean Dyche, making his competitive Everton debut in August 2024 against Tottenham Hotspur in a humbling 4-0 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, before featuring as a late sub in the Carabao Cup tie against Doncaster Rovers later that month.

He did get another start for the senior side under Sean Dyche when Southampton came to Goodison Park to play a 3rd Round tie in the Carabao Cup, where his driving runs were a recurring feature, attracting rave reviews from many fans, but it seemed that wasn't enough to make up for other presumed deficiencies in his game.

Known for his explosive pace and athletic presence at right-back, Dixon had been a mainstay for the Under-21s in the Premier League 2, where he returned after his brief exposure to the first team, with a handful of wasted senior games spent sat on the bench making up the numbers while others got to perform on the field.

But a serious ankle ligament injury sustained after returning to the Under-21s required surgery in late April 2025, sidelining him for 7 months. He returned to the U21s earlier this year and joined Stockport County on loan in January 2026, making 9 appearances at Edgley Park across all competitions.

Dixon has also represented England at youth level. He first played for the under-16s against Scotland in 2019, then won two under-20 caps in 2024, debuting from the bench in a team that included new Saddlers goalkeeper Jed Ward and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jobe Bellingham.
