Romania coach Mircea Lucescu collapsed during Sunday morning training and was taken to Bucharest University Emergency Hospital. The federation said in a statement that the 80-year-old is stable.

He felt unwell during the technical meeting before the final session ahead of the squad’s trip to Slovakia. Team medics administered first aid, the emergency line 112 was called and two SMURD crews were dispatched.

He suffered a serious cardiac arrhythmia outside a hospital setting.

He was later moved to another hospital in the capital for comprehensive tests and specialist monitoring, in line with medical protocols.

Lucescu has experienced health issues in recent months. "No puedo marcharme como un cobarde", he told The Guardian.
