Fabrizio Romano reveals that Racing Santander teenager Jorge Salinas has been offered to Manchester United.

The Red Devils are in the market for a new left-back capable of taking some of the burden off Luke Shaw’s shoulders.

Lewis Hall was their profile of choice, but Newcastle United has closed the door to the 21-year-old’s departure, especially after selling another three key assets in Sandro Tonali, Antony Gordon, and Bruno Guimaraes, thus forcing Man Utd to start scanning the market for alternative solutions.

Man Utd given the opportunity to sign Jorge Salinas

Over the past few days, Salinas has emerged as a potential target for Man Utd. The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell even confirmed the club’s interest in the 19-year-old who helped Racing Santander win Spain’s second division and earn a promotion to LaLiga.

The youngster also played an integral part in Spain’s triumphant Euro U19 campaign earlier in the summer.

In his latest video update on YouTube, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano weighed in on the situation, confirming that United’s current priority is to sign a new left-back, and they’re open to recruiting a young player for this role, as long as he’s capable of offering an immediate contribution to the first team.

The transfer market expert reveals that Salinas has indeed been offered to the Red Devils. However, he warns them about competition from Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, who have also been linked with the player.

Nevertheless, Romano insists the young Spaniard isn’t the only name on MUFC’s shortlist, as the club continues to monitor various profiles from different markets.

Salinas has a contract with Santander valid until June 2029, but it includes a €16 million (£13.7) release clause, making him an affordable target.

What would Salinas offer to Man United?

Despite being a young full-back wanted at Barca, Salinas doesn’t truly fit the Jordi Alba mould. Interestingly, AS describes the teenager as the left-footed version of Sergio Ramos.

The legendary Real Madrid captain famously started his career at right-back before transitioning into the heart of the backline.

Likewise, Salinas plays at left-back for Racing, but occasionally operates as a centre-back, as his aggressiveness in duels and aerial prowess render him a natural fit for a central role.

Therefore, Salinas could well and truly be Shaw’s natural heir in Man Utd’s lineup, as the experienced Englishman is also a left-back renowned for his defensive potency, hence why he was an automatic pick in Ruben Amorim’s three-man defence.
