Joshua Zirkzee is said to be considering a move away from Manchester United for the first time.

The forward made the switch to Old Trafford from Bologna back in July 2024 after United activated his £36.5 million release clause.

Now, he could see his tenure cut short following only two seasons in red.

Fabrizio Romano provided an update on Zirkzee’s situation today, saying (via UtdTruthful): “For the first time, Joshua Zirkzee is genuinely looking around regarding his future, unlike before.

“He would happily return to Italy. He enjoyed his time there and knows the league.”

A return to Italy is seemingly the most likely outcome, too, as Juventus have stepped up their pursuit of Zirkzee this week in hopes of taking him on loan.

What’s the latest on Zirkzee?

United would sanction a loan deal as long as the terms include a buy obligation rather than an option. Alternatively, they are open to facilitating a permanent sale, though it remains to be seen what kind of fee they would demand.

The 25-year-old will be well aware that the impending return of Marcus Rashford in the coming weeks would potentially lead to his game time being even more limited – and this is after a campaign in which Zirkzee made only five starts in total.

Zirkzee’s complete record for United

It goes without saying that the Dutchman has struggled to leave a lasting impression in the appearances he has made, but fans would perhaps argue he hasn’t been granted the chances to stake his claim or maintain his form.

Signing for Juventus would allow him to ply his trade in a familiar environment within Serie A, while also having fewer eyes on him, as the English top flight notoriously attracts the most scrutiny for players across Europe.
