A new documentary revisits 1995 in Rio, charting how a funk track strained Romário and Edmundo’s bond at Flamengo. It debuts on SporTV and Globoplay on Sunday, 21/12, at 22:00 Brasília time.

According to Globo.com, 1995: No Tempo dos Bad Boys traces Flamengo’s centenary season and the city’s 1990s football culture across three episodes. It blends nostalgia with controversy and tragedy.

Episode one focuses on Romário’s return and Renato Gaúcho’s star power. Episode two covers Edmundo’s arrival and the crisis around the dream attack. The finale revisits Washington Rodrigues’s short stint and Edmundo’s car accident days before the Supercopa decider.

On the pitch, Flamengo lost the Carioca to Fluminense 3-2. The Romário, Sávio and Edmundo trio scored 24 in 20 games as the Brasileiro faltered. In the Supercopa, they won 7 of 8 yet finished runners-up to Independiente in their 90th year.

The series recounts how the pair’s Hino dos bad boys, created with beach friend Raposão, became a hit and a flashpoint. Sony Music pursued the duo, but a contract that favoured Romário reportedly left Edmundo unhappy, seeding their first disagreement away from the pitch.

More than 20 figures, from players and executives to DJ Marlboro and MC Leonardo of Rap do Centenário, contribute. Edmundo and Vanderlei Luxemburgo declined to take part.
