The Prefect of Rome has moved the Derby della Capitale from Sunday to Monday to avoid a clash with the Italian Open final near the Stadio Olimpico.

The Roma v Lazio match, originally set for Sunday, May 17 at 12:30 CET, will now kick off on Monday, May 18 at 20:45 CET, 19:45 BST. According to Football Italia, Serie A officials are preparing an urgent legal appeal to TAR to overturn the prefecture’s decision.

Authorities cited security concerns, with the Foro Italico next to the Olimpico and more than 20,000 tennis fans expected on Sunday.

The change creates a scheduling problem for Lega Serie A, as the last two rounds must be played simultaneously for clubs chasing the same objective. Roma, Milan, Juventus, Napoli and Como are all still in contention for Champions League places.

The next round currently has Juventus hosting Fiorentina, Milan travelling to Genoa, Napoli visiting Pisa and Como at home to Parma. Technically, those fixtures would also shift to Monday, May 18 at 20:45 CET to maintain simultaneity, though no official decision has been taken.
