Boca are in pot one for the Copa Libertadores group-stage draw, with Corinthians in pot two after winning the 2025 Copa do Brasil. Depending on the draw, the Paraguayan could face his former club as early as the groups.

Across his second spell at Corinthians from 2023 to 2025, Romero played 155 matches, scoring 27 goals and supplying 13 assists, winning the Paulistão and the 2025 Copa do Brasil. He was pivotal in the 2023 relegation fight, scoring six of the team’s 11 goals across the final eight league games.

In total for Corinthians, he made 377 appearances, with 175 wins, 99 draws and 103 defeats, becoming the club’s most-used foreign player. He left with 67 goals, 37 assists and six trophies.
