Ángel Romero ends his Corinthians spell as an idol and a record-setter, leaving as the club’s most decorated foreign player. The Paraguayan departs after his second stint.
According to Meu Timao, his 2023 return placed four marks within reach, the Neo Química Arena scoring record, most goals by a foreigner, most titles by a foreigner, and top scorer in derbies. He signed off with two achieved.
With Paulista and Copa do Brasil lifted last season, Romero stands alone as the non-Brazilian with most Corinthians titles, six in total. He moved clear of Freddy Rincón and Paolo Guerrero, both on four.
He added 29 goals in this second spell, many vital during the 2023 survival push, taking his tally to 67 when combined with 38 from 2014-2018. That is the club record for a foreign scorer. He also supplied 37 assists.
Those numbers pushed him beyond Guerrero on 54 and Carlitos Tévez on 46. Romero also set the foreign appearance record with 377 games, ahead of Balbuena on 167 and Rincón on 158.
He was, for a time, the Neo Química Arena’s top scorer. After holding the mark before leaving in 2018, he reclaimed it in 2024 with a goal against Nacional of Paraguay to pass Róger Guedes. Later that season Yuri Alberto moved ahead, leaving Romero second.
