Spurs have failed to win in 11 games in the Premier League, while Tuesday’s 5-2 defeat at Atletico Madrid set a new club record of six straight losses in all competitions.

The North Londoners trailed 4-1 at half-time in a dire first half to leave their European aspirations hanging by a thread.

Romero has been vocal in his unhappiness with the club’s direction and board. Earlier this season, he described the squad’s lack of depth as “disgraceful” after a failure to make more signings in January amid significant injury problems. He also hit out at a lack of communication from the hierarchy during difficult spells.

Several sides in Spain and England are monitoring the World Cup winner, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that a move could happen – despite signing a new deal last summer.

Atletico Madrid and Manchester United have both been named as potential destinations for the defender.
