Romeu Tuma Júnior, president of Corinthians’ Conselho Deliberativo, has revoked the halt on internal probes into alleged misuse of the club’s corporate card by Andrés Sanchez, Duilio Monteiro Alves and Augusto Melo. According to Meu Timao, the investigations had been paused since Monday.
A new ruling authorises the Ethics and Discipline and the Justice Commissions to restart the cases. The earlier suspension was described as prudential, due to uncertainty over criminal cautionary measures, with Andrés barred from meeting club members.
Amid inquiries by São Paulo’s Public Prosecutor’s Office, Tuma sought access to court files in a related case and said the civil inquiry supports the club’s internal work. He noted that the courts did not receive a complaint against Duilio and that Augusto Melo has none on this matter. He proposed inviting Cassio Conserino to follow the proceedings.
Tuma wrote that the rethink reflects an evolving factual picture and newly available information, not an institutional retreat. He also ordered the board to hand over pending documents within five working days, setting a 23 February deadline, and to keep the case files confidential.
Andrés faces the Ethics Commission over alleged spending during his second term, between 2018 and 2020. Duilio was preparing to be heard by the Justice Commission. Prosecutors also ordered steps to verify a possible breach of Andrés’ cautionary measures.
Prosecutors have charged Andrés Sanchez and former finance manager Roberto Gavioli with embezzlement, money laundering and falsifying a tax document, with Gavioli cited only in the first two. Those decisions were suspended by the São Paulo courts. The complaint lists more than 200 irregular expenses across 31 invoices between 2018 and 2021, seeking about R$ 480,000 in material damages plus 75 percent in moral damages, roughly R$ 1.1 million.
Duilio is under investigation for 2021 to 2023 spending, with a complaint in July pointing to records between 26 September and 31 October 2023 showing more than R$ 80,000 beyond the club’s remit. He gave a brief statement in November, in which the complaint says he admitted using only R$ 1,300.
