In a statement on Tuesday, Romeu Tuma Júnior said he does not recognise the legal validity of the meeting that temporarily removed him as president of Corinthians’ Conselho Deliberativo, and insisted he remains in post until a valid court order or a fully statutory internal process.
According to Meu Timao, the vote was called by council president Osmar Stabile, who alleged intimidation and interference by Tuma, and São Paulo’s Public Prosecutor (MP-SP) requested the minutes of the session that led to his precautionary removal.
Tuma argued the gathering breached the club’s Statute, citing a formal halt to proceedings, verbal aggression towards directors and a resumption led by someone without authority. He said any decisions taken lack legitimacy. He reaffirmed commitment to the Statute and institutional stability.
At Parque São Jorge, the council approved his provisional ousting by nominal vote, 115 in favour and 15 against. The meeting was tense and was closed by first secretary Maria Angela Ocampos after disputes involving councillor Rubens Gomes, known as Rubão, before councillors continued under different leadership.
The removal request cited accusations of threats, harassment and interference in the board’s work, which Tuma denies, and he signalled plans to go to court. With his provisional removal, vice-president Leonardo Pantaleão took interim charge and said he did not regard the vote as fair. The prosecutor has also sought the club’s financial statements and the full Ernst & Young audit report.
