Ron Gourlay will meet André Almeida at Paterna on Thursday, with the Portuguese’s exit still stalled and Valencia’s search for a right-back for Carlos Corberán on hold.
AS reports that Valencia and Swansea have an agreement worth 3.5 million plus add-ons for the midfielder, yet Almeida prefers to wait in case Celta de Vigo make a move. For now he does not want to go to Wales to play in the English second division.
Almeida has been training alone at Paterna to protect his fitness while talks with Swansea entered the final stretch. Thursday is set to be his last session apart. He must either accept Swansea’s offer, bring a proposal from Celta or another club, or rejoin training on Friday to prepare Saturday’s Trofeo Naranja against Newcastle.
He had permission to miss training and travel to Wales for a medical, and Swansea had opened talks with his representatives, yet he chose to wait. His preference is Celta, though at Valencia there is no knowledge of interest from the Galician club.
Claudio Giráldez admires Almeida and sees him fitting into a double pivot. Even so, Celta have not moved formally because they are focused on outgoings. Potential sales of Matías Vecino and Ilaix would open a midfield slot and raise funds for a bid.
