Barcelona captain Ronald Araujo left Uruguay’s training session on Sunday because of muscle discomfort.

The Uruguayan federation said in a statement that he had left the camp to receive treatment and would be seen by medical professionals who have worked with him before.

He should rejoin the squad on Tuesday, the day they depart for their base in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, one week before their World Cup opener on 16 June against Saudi Arabia in Miami, United States.

The problem arose in training, with Uruguay not playing a friendly before the tournament.

Uruguay are also without Giorgian De Arrascaeta, who has a calf injury. The 32-year-old Flamengo midfielder will miss at least the team’s first two World Cup matches.
