Liverpool will have the option to sign Ronald Araujo permanently for a fee of €55m (£47.1m) during his loan spell from Barcelona.
Araujo is travelling to Merseyside today to undergo his medical ahead ofcompleting a season-long loan move to Liverpool.
The 27-year-old is set to become the Reds' third signing of the summer, following deals for Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz. Araujo will add defensive depth for Andoni Iraola, following the departure of Ibrahima Konate to Real Madrid.
Liverpool are understood to consider Araujo as an option at centre-back and right-back, with the latter another position lacking depth.
Conor Bradley remains sidelined with a serious knee injury and no return date has been confirmed for the 23-year-old, while Jeremie Frimpong has struggled to make an impact at Anfield.
Araujo arrives at Anfield after a disappointing period at Barcelona, andFabrizio Romano has reported that the Reds are confident that he can rediscover his form amid a new challenge.
The Uruguayan international has made 213 appearances for Barcelona, winning three La Liga titles, though took a break from football last season to concentrate on his mental health, following criticism of his performances.
The Barcelona captain could make his debut when Liverpool face Como in their final pre-season friendly on August 16th, before the club begin theirPremier League campaign at Newcastle United a week later.
