As Barcelona prepare for a potentially title-winning El Clasico against Real Madrid, defender Ronald Araujo has spoken with confidence, calmness, and honesty ahead of one of the biggest matches of the season.
The Catalan giants know that a positive result against their biggest rivals could effectively secure the La Liga title.
While even a draw would win them the Spanish championship at the Spotify Camp Nou, the players appear fully focused on finishing the campaign strongly rather than settling for the minimum requirement.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Araujo insisted that the squad remains composed despite the enormous importance of the occasion.
While discussing Barcelona’s mentality before the game, the Uruguayan centre-back said that the team is aiming to reach the 100-point milestone.
“We’re staying calm in the run-up to the game. It’s a big derby; if we win, we’re champions.
“Even though a draw would be enough, our goal is to reach 100 points. With the team we have, we can do it, and it would be historic.”
Apart from the title race, Araujo also opened up about his personal growth after going through a difficult period recently.
The defender admitted that the experience changed the way he views both football and life, helping him mature mentally and emotionally.

“I’m doing very well. Thank God. I’ve learned a lot during this time, which has helped me grow, become more mature, see things differently, and put things into perspective… So that’s what keeps me calm.
“I can give my all on the field and be myself.
“It took a lot of courage to talk about what I was going through, to stop and acknowledge it, so I could work through it. Today I feel like a better person.”
The conversation shifted toward international football, with Araujo speaking about the Uruguay national football team and the excitement surrounding the upcoming World Cup.
After missing out on the previous tournament due to injury problems, the defender admitted that the experience was painful and that he is now approaching the next World Cup with extra motivation.
“We’re really excited. Not being able to play in the last World Cup made me sad. I’m approaching this one eager to enjoy it.
“I think we have a great team, and we can keep improving with the quality of players we have. I’m sure we’ll do it.”
Finally, the Barcelona defender ended the interview on a lighter note when asked which teammate best represents Uruguayan culture inside the dressing room.
“Ferran Torres drinks mate with me, knows how to prepare it, and loves barbecue,” he concluded.
