Ronald Araujo ‘to sign’ for Liverpool on loan with option to buy | OneFootball

Mundo Deportivo reports that Liverpool and Barcelona are said to have agreed a loan with an option to buy for Ronald Araujo. The report added the agreement was struck within hours on Friday, and the value of the option has not been disclosed.

Araujo joined Barcelona in 2019 and comes off a mixed season with the Blaugrana. He made 38 appearances in all competitions but is no longer an automatic pick for Hansi Flick, behind Pau Cubarsi and Gerard Martin.

The Uruguayan defender, 27, has 27 caps and one goal. He is seeking more minutes.

Liverpool are in pressing need of cover at centre-back. Ibrahima Konaté's departure and injuries to Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni have left Virgil van Dijk as the only fit senior option.

The signings of Jérémy Jacquet and Araujo should help to address those gaps.
