Ronald Koeman has softened his stance on Memphis Depay, saying the Corinthians forward could make the World Cup squad even if not fully fit.

"I think it would be possible in his case. I also took him to Euro 2024, even when he was not 100% fit. It is possible he would be called up and start on the bench if he is not fully ready," said Koeman. He was speaking to Dutch broadcaster NOS.

Memphis has been recovering from a grade 2 right thigh injury since March and has begun his return-to-play transition.

"The expectation is that he will rejoin the squad for the next matches. Fortunately they have games every three days. The last match is on 27 May, so there is still enough time if everything goes well," he added.

UOL Esporte reports that the No 10 could be named in the squad for the derby with São Paulo on Sunday in the Brasileiro. In 2026 he has 12 appearances, 1 goal and 1 assist for Corinthians, and his contract runs only until 20 June as the club seek funding to extend.
