Memphis Depay was withdrawn after 22 minutes of Corinthians’ draw with Flamengo with right quadriceps discomfort, and Ronald Koeman has signalled he may not feature in this month’s internationals.
According to Meu Timao, the forward had sparked the move for Yuri Alberto’s goal shortly before coming off, and the Netherlands coach voiced concern over his condition.
Koeman said he had been asleep during the match and woke to messages about an injury. He suggested Memphis might still join up, possibly for the second game, but did not look in good shape, and said no replacement would be called if he missed out.
Corinthians executive Marcelo Paz said the Dutch federation can require the player to report for assessment and treatment during the window, adding both sides want him back as soon as possible.
The squad are due to assemble on Monday in Zeist. Memphis had planned to leave Brazil after the Flamengo game to link up, and after the interval he was on the bench before later saying he had been in contact with national-team medics. The Dutch host Norway on 27 March at 16:45 Brasília time in Amsterdam, then Ecuador on 31 March at 15:45 in Eindhoven.
Corinthians next play Fluminense on 1 April at 21:30 at the Maracanã in the Brasileiro. Memphis is under contract until 20 June 2026 and can already sign a pre-contract, and he has 20 goals and 15 assists for the club.
