According to L'Équipe, a three-part Netflix documentary, Ronaldinho, le seul et l'unique, lands on Thursday and charts the 2005 Ballon d'Or's life, from PSG to Barcelona and beyond.
It shows the Brazilian speaking with his familiar grin, describing a carefree existence. He dwells on family, recalling street skills honed on errands to bring his father home, and the pain of losing his mother in 2021, while brother and agent Roberto Assis remains central.
The film explains why he chose PSG in 2001, aligning with Nike and easing his first steps in Europe. The then president Laurent Perpère remembers an innocent talent who once wondered if he had enough money for a fridge. Nights out intensified after the 2002 World Cup, and relations with coach Luis Fernandez collapsed.
Sold to FC Barcelona in 2003 for 30 million euros, he enjoyed a blistering start as Joan Laporta credits him with sparking the club's renewal. The 2006 Champions League triumph features, as does Lionel Messi's account of a welcoming dressing-room leader, with the eight-time Ballon d'Or grateful for that guidance.
After leaving AC Milan in 2011 he joined Flamengo, where marathon parties in Rio angered supporters and even prompted a hotline to track his nights out. He later lit up Atlético Mineiro, lifting the Copa Libertadores in 2013. Later, he and his brother spent five months in a Paraguayan prison for false documents, where he played football, made friends and found brief respite.
