Ronaldo and Son at 2030 World Cup? Portugal’s Historic Moment Could Deliver a Unique First
Football history's in the making as Portugal, Spain and Morocco prepare to host the 2030 FIFA World cup marking the 1st time Portugal welcomes the planet’s most prestigious tournament.
But the dream runs deeper for Portugal as rare football phenomenon may unfold , the chance of seeing Cristiano Ronaldo and his son Cristiano Jr involved with the same national team at World cup on home soil.
The tournament'll mark the centenary edition of the World cup with special opening matches staged in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay to honor the inaugural 1930 edition.
By 2030 Cristiano Ronaldo will be 45 years old likely retired from professional play. However his legacy's far from over. Known for his deep commitment to the sport, there's growing speculation that he could take on coaching or leadership role with the Portuguese national team.
At the same time Cristiano Jr born in Jun 2010 will be 20 year old the perfect age to break into Portugal’s senior squad. Already making waves the youngster's trained with Real Madrid, Juventus, Manchester United and now Al Nassr’s academy mirroring his father’s iconic career path.
He plays as left winger or striker known for his explosive pace and powerful right foot. In May 2025 he earned his first Portugal U15 call up sparking viral reactions and proud praise from his father.
If Jr continues his development and if Ronaldo embraces managerial path the 2030 tournament could witness unprecedented sight (father - son duo in the same World cup squad) one possibly as head coach or director, the other as player.
Ronaldo himself didn’t dismiss the idea stating:
"I would love that .. but it’s more in his hands than mine"
