Ronaldo condemns Al-Taawoun chants and backs Ruben Neves after taunts about Diogo Jota | OneFootball

Al-Nassr forward Ronaldo has condemned Al-Taawoun supporters and backed Al-Hilal’s Ruben Neves, urging the league to punish offenders and bar them from stadiums.

According to Goal.com, Al-Taawoun fans chanted the name of Neves’s compatriot and late friend Diogo Jota, the former Liverpool player who died in an accident last year, apparently to provoke him during the game. The incident left Neves furious.

Footage quickly spread on social media, and Ronaldo responded on Instagram, calling for league action and saying people who act like that should never be admitted to stadiums again.

At full time Neves walked past the media and declined to discuss the chants directly, offering only a brief remark.

He said he hoped those Al-Taawoun supporters would not go to prayers, a pointed reference to behaviour he viewed as against human values, principles and religions.
