Fabio Silva has emerged as an unlikely early-season winner, the Borussia Dortmund striker nudged up Portugal’s pecking order amid the Ronaldo and Jorge Jesus stand-off. Goal.com reports that Ronaldo left the camp last week after being told he would not start against Denmark.

Before that exit, Silva said he had wanted to share moments with Ronaldo and learn from his idol. Ronaldo will miss Sunday’s Nations League home game against Norway, and Silva is now in contention.

The 24-year-old has one senior cap, a November 2024 debut off the bench against Croatia, when Ronaldo was also out with foot inflammation. He met the superstar for the first time in training, then moved up after the departure. He was on the bench in Denmark but unused.

His next opportunity comes at 8.45pm on Sunday at the Estadio da Dragao in Porto, though any involvement is likely to be brief. At Dortmund, Serhou Guirassy remains first choice under Niko Kovac. He came off the bench at Hoffenheim to score with his first shot in a 3-2 comeback from 2-0 down, then started against Paderborn and struck after five minutes in a 3-0 win.

Two months ago, Bild claimed Real Betis approached Dortmund about a loan with an obligation to buy under conditions, which did not appeal as the club likely wanted to recoup their 2025 outlay to Wolverhampton. Silva is contracted until 2030 and says he is focused on improving with Dortmund and the Seleccao.
