Ronan Maher joins Wealdstone on loan after Walsall squad omission | OneFootball

ExpressAndStar.com reports that Walsall midfielder Ronan Maher has joined National League side Wealdstone on loan.

The 21-year-old was omitted from the Saddlers' 25-man EFL squad earlier this month, after which Lee Grant confirmed plans for him to leave on loan. Maher is in the final year of the two-year contract he signed in summer 2025.

The Republic of Ireland under-21 international entered Walsall's academy aged 11 and made his senior debut as a late substitute in a 4-0 opening-day win over Hartlepool United in July 2022. He later had loan spells with Tamworth across the past two seasons, scoring seven goals and providing five assists in 36 appearances.

For Walsall he has 15 League Two appearances, with two starts and 246 minutes. In all competitions he has played 33 times, scoring once and registering one assist.

His last league outing came from the bench in a 4-0 victory at Swindon Town in August 2024. He missed part of pre-season with an elbow injury, returning as a substitute in a 1-0 defeat at AFC Telford United on July 25. He has not featured under Grant competitively, though he was an unused substitute in the 2-2 draw at Crewe Alexandra at the start of this month.

Grant said the move followed constructive talks and will provide clarity and a chance to build minutes.
