Joan Garcia and Marcus Rashford took up most of the spotlight as FC Barcelona made some new additions to their squad in the last summer transfer window, but the youngster Roony Bardghji was another player brought in by the Catalans.

Despite arriving for just over €2 million from Copenhagen, Bardghji’s registration has been delayed due to Barça’s ongoing salary cap issues. Unlike Garcia and Rashford, the club has so far only been able to register the 19-year-old with a reserve-team card.

Even before his transfer was finalized, reports in Spain suggested he might be signed for Barça Atlètic. However, Bardghji has now set the record straight, speaking to the media, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, during Sweden’s U21 camp in Halmstad.

“I don’t think I would have signed if it was to play for the youth team. I’ve played more than 100 matches in a first team, and I would not have accepted going to a B team. That’s something you invented. It’s not true.”

The teenager stressed that his agreement with Barcelona always included a first-team role:

“No, nothing. From the beginning, both the club and I knew what the plan was. From day one, the key has been to be in the first team. Of everything that has been said, none of it is true. It hasn’t affected me.”

Bardghji also showed understanding of Barça’s financial struggles, noting that the registration difficulties were nothing new:

“As many know… I don’t know if you can call it a problem, but they’ve had difficulties registering players for several years. It hasn’t only happened this year. It’s happened many times, and it’s something the club struggles with.”

The winger remains optimistic about being available for Barcelona’s next La Liga clash against Valencia on September 14:

“Yes, that’s it. I think by then everything will be ready.”

Off the pitch, Bardghji is already enjoying life in Barcelona, which he says feels very different compared to Copenhagen:

“It’s been fantastic. I’m enjoying it. The city is fantastic, the club is fantastic. Everything is different. If I may say so. It’s hard to answer because there are big differences.”

He also praised the team’s welcoming atmosphere:

“It’s like a family. I haven’t felt this way in other teams I’ve been in. Many have grown up together and played together in the youth ranks. You don’t have a fixed group of friends that you’re always with, but everyone comes together.”

Hopefully, Bardghji will be registered soon, as both the club and the player himself would be keen to ensure he is available for Hansi Flick, especially as the UEFA Champions League is also going to start, and the coach will be looking to rotate his team more often.
