Lamine Yamal’s hamstring injury has ruled him out for the rest of the season, creating an opening for Roony Bardghji. Barcelona visit Getafe on Saturday as their pursuit of the Liga continues.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the 20-year-old winger has been Barcelona’s invisible man under Hansi Flick, stuck behind Yamal and used sparingly. On Sweden duty he recently said he had been patient but felt he merited more minutes.
The gap is stark. Yamal has logged 3,702 minutes to Bardghji’s 661, and the Swede is fifth lowest for game time in the squad, ahead only of Marc Bernal, Dro, Jofre Torrents and Gavi. He has not completed a match, has started three, and was unused in 27 of 51 games.
Flick considers Bardghji ready and training well, and indicated he could now see more opportunities, although he did not promise a start. Raphinha’s absence further thins the options. Bardghji’s cameos have shown spark, yet he has been tried solely on the right.
Signed last summer by Deco on a four-year deal, he arrived from FC Copenhague for €2.5 million. Despite the low profile, Transfermakt lists him at €15 million, and a summer decision over moving or staying awaits.
Flick said they will meet after the season to discuss the situation, praising Bardghji as a model professional who has improved but competes with one of the world’s best in his role. He now has six matches, notably Real Madrid on 10 May, to change the narrative.
