Roseli de Belo hails women’s game growth and recalls Corinthians roots at Copinha launch | OneFootball

Pioneer and former Corinthians forward Roseli de Belo hailed the rise of the women’s game at the Copinha Feminina launch, recalling memories of Parque São Jorge.

According to Meu Timao, the FPF unveiled the youth tournament on Wednesday, to run from 24 November to 12 December, with past greats in attendance. Roseli welcomed an academy pathway missing in her era.

Active from the 1980s to the 2000s, she was a Brazil pioneer, playing the 1991 and 1995 World Cups and the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympics. She also played the 1988 FIFA experimental tournament in China and later led the Corinthians line.

The draw split 20 teams into five groups. The Brabinhas landed in Group B, nicknamed Copan, to face Red Bull Bragantino, Atlético-MG and Ação-MT at Estádio Nicolau Alayon in Barra Funda.

Roseli recalled a strike against Australia at Parque do Sabiá during the Torneio Cidade de Uberlândia in April 1995, a 3-0 win, saying 75,000 were inside, and urged more support and sponsorship.

On Monday Corinthians set this year’s Brazilian women’s attendance mark, drawing 9,755 to Neo Química Arena for the Brasileiro semi-final second leg against Bahia.

The all-time club record also belongs to the Brabas, with 44,529 at the Casa do Povo in 2024 to see a 2-0 win over São Paulo and a sixth national crown.

They meet São Paulo again in a national final on Saturday. About 6,000 tickets have been sold for the first leg at Neo Química Arena, kick-off 16:30.
