Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has issued updates on the fitness of Cole Palmer and Romeo Lavia.
English international Palmer is still getting back to full fitness amid a very disrupted season; suffering from numerous different injuries so far. He has missed time through a groin problem, a broken toe, and most recently a thigh issue.
He has missed over three months due to these injuries and is, therefore, still building his match fitness.
Rosenior said: “Cole is in a good place, he joined training today which is really positive.”
Asked if he was 100% fit, the manager said: “That’s my job [to get him there]. I need to look after the players. Not just in terms of Cole, but there’s a number of players in the group to look after.
“I want us to be involved at the end of the season in big games and big competitions.”
A midfielder who the Blues have been without since November is Lavia. The talented Belgian has never been able to nail down a starting spot since he joined Chelsea over two years ago due to continuous injuries.
Rosenior said on the 22-year-old: “Romeo is on the way back, which is great. He’s a very, very good player at a very high level. I want him back as quickly as possible but I want that with no more injuries.
“I don’t want to force him. I want Lavia to come back to a place where we know where he can get game time and regular games.”
Rosenior has won three of his four games in charge at Chelsea so far, but there have been a growing number of reports in recent weeks that Palmer is homesick and misses Manchester.
Asked if that was the case, Rosenior added: “I’ve had numerous conversations with Cole and he seems very happy to be here. He’s a huge part in our long-term plans. My job and the club’s job is to get him into a situation where he can consistently perform to the level he wants to.
“We need to look after him and that’s why I didn’t involve him in the last game (against Pafos).”
