Liam Rosenior has just taken his press conference ahead of Chelsea’s game in the FA Cup tomorrow evening, giving updates on a few players who could feature including midfielder Romeo Lavia.

Lavia is back from his latest injury and has made sub appearances in his last couple of games. The question to Rosenior, then, was whether the midfielder was now ready to start. A cup game against Championship Wrexham would seem the perfect chance to give him 45 or 60 minutes from the start.

“It is [a good opportunity]. I’m delighted for him. Romeo will definitely play a part and he’ll play a huge part for the rest of the season.

“We know of his attributes. He’s been itching to play but we’ve tried to build him in the best possible way. But yeah, his chance is to come and he’s definitely going to play in his next few games.”

Rosenior hints that Lavia will only be a sub despite progress

To us, that sounds more like a hint that he won’t play than he will. But perhaps Rosenior is just keeping us guessing. Either way, it seems certain that the 22 year old gets significantly more than the 15 minutes he got in his last two sub appearances.

At this rate, it will only be a week or two before Lavia is ready to start – but it’s hard to imagine him being thrown into massive games against PSG or Newcastle for his first start since early November.
