Agustín Rossi’s recent performances have placed him firmly at the center of Flamengo’s defensive resurgence this season. The Argentine goalkeeper has registered three clean sheets in his last five games, a sequence that highlights his consistency and underlines his growing significance for the club.
Surpassing the 100-match milestone for Flamengo, Rossi was officially recognized by the club for his achievement. His contribution goes beyond longevity. Earlier in 2024, he held opponents scoreless for 1,135 consecutive minutes—a number that places him among the top five longest unbeaten streaks by a goalkeeper in Brazilian football history. That run allowed him to eclipse Flamengo legends such as Cantarele and align his name with other storied Brazilian keepers like Zetti and Leão.
Even after the end of that historic streak, Rossi has maintained a level of performance that anchors Flamengo’s defensive unit. His recent clean sheets came in matches against Fortaleza, Palmeiras, and Botafogo, including a decisive 5-0 result over Fortaleza and a 2-0 win against Palmeiras. In total, Rossi has started 13 matches in the 2025 Brasileirão campaign, collecting three clean sheets in this latest stretch and picking up just a single yellow card, which underscores his disciplined approach.
Since joining Flamengo in 2023, Rossi has become an undisputed starter, recognized by the coaching staff and club management for his leadership within the squad. His steady presence between the posts has coincided with a period of tangible success for Flamengo, including back-to-back Campeonato Carioca titles (2024 and 2025), the 2024 Copa do Brasil, and the 2025 Supercopa do Brasil.
Interest from European clubs has emerged in light of Rossi’s consistent displays, and he is now a candidate to become club captain following Gerson’s departure. Flamengo’s technical and administrative teams are actively seeking to negotiate an extension to his contract, reflecting their appreciation of his influence both on and off the field.
Rossi’s rapid journey to cult status at Flamengo, highlighted by his remarkable clean sheet streak and important defensive records, has placed him at a high point in his career—even outshining his previous spell at Boca Juniors. The recent run of three clean sheets in five matches not only emphasizes his individual form but mirrors the collective solidity that Flamengo has found under his stewardship. For a club with high expectations every season, Rossi’s presence and reliability have proven to be a critical factor in their ongoing campaigns.
